Quick start
The complete UNI 60 project in eleven ordered stages — from unpacking the crate to the first heating season, with links to the detailed page for each step.
A UNI 60 installation runs in eleven stages, and skipping any of the first eight will cost you later. Use this page as the project checklist; each step links to the page that covers it in full.
First firing is not a DIY step
Section 6.4 of the UNI boiler manual requires the first firings to be carried out by a trained installer or service technician. Electrical connections must be made by a qualified electrician.
Confirm the boiler suits the building
Check the heat load against the UNI 60's 85–205 KBTU output and 5,000 ft² nominal coverage. Square-footage figures are approximate — real sizing depends on heat loss, insulation and climate.
Inspect the delivery
Check the boiler for shipping and mechanical damage before accepting it, and confirm every item on the packing list is present. After sale, the distributor will not accept claims for incompleteness or mechanical damage.
Read the safety rules
Pressure, temperature and fuel limits govern every later decision. Maximum operating pressure is 15 psi, maximum flow temperature 185 °F, and the boiler must never run without a relief valve.
→ Safety
Lay out the boiler room
Set the clearances, the floor, and the service access before anything is moved into place. You need 36 in at the front to clean the boiler and at least 24 in behind it.
Size and specify the chimney
The flue must be at least the diameter of the boiler outlet — 8 in for the UNI 60 — in acid-resistant stainless steel, insulated wherever it is exposed.
Design the hydronic system
Closed system, expansion tank, relief valve, return-temperature protection and — in almost every case — a buffer tank.
Position and pipe the boiler
Set the boiler level on a non-combustible floor, connect 2 in supply and return, fit the relief valve and drain, and connect the flue.
→ Positioning · Piping
Fill and pressure-test
Fill with clean water of no more than 2 ppm hardness, vent the system, and test. Maximum test pressure is 50 psi.
Wire the controller, sensors and pumps
Boiler sensor into the immersion well, STB clamped to the supply, fan and pumps to their outputs, thermostat to I2. A 120 V pump needs the supplied 230 V relay block.
Load the recommended controller settings
Apply the MBtek settings for the UNI 60 before the first fire — the factory defaults are generic and will not burn well in this boiler.
Fire it, then hand it over
Check the draft, load the firebox, ignite, run Start Fire, and stay with the boiler. Then train the owner on loading, ash removal and the cleaning schedule.
