Commissioning checklist
The final pre-fire walkthrough for a UNI 60 — hydraulics, electrics, controller settings, draft and documentation — before the first fire is lit.
Work through this list before lighting the first fire — and fill in the warranty card while you are at it, because an unsigned card can invalidate the warranty. Commissioning must be performed by a professional authorised by the manufacturer.
Hydraulic
Hard water scales the heat transfer surfaces. 1 mm of scale costs 10 % of heat transfer, and scale damage is not covered by warranty. See Filling and water quality.
Mandatory. The discharge must be piped to a location where a release of boiling water is safe.
Required on both closed and open systems. Volume comes from the heating system design.
Thermostatic valve holding the return above roughly 130 °F. Without a thermostatic valve on direct circulation with a return below 122 °F, set the supply to at least 149 °F.
Maximum test pressure 50 psi. Working pressure must not exceed 15 psi. Expect to vent repeatedly over the first weeks.
So the pumps always have a path when the controller forces them on above the boiler cooling temperature.
Electrical
Boilers TIS UNI must be electrically grounded.
Measure the ground resistance of pump motors and the insulation resistance of the wiring before starting the controller.
Recommended for reliable and stable regulator operation.
No liquid in the well. See Electrical and sensors.
The fan must cut above ~90 °C, and must not restart until water is below 60 °C and the alarm has been manually reset.
Dry contact on I2: open when satisfied, closed on demand. 24 VAC thermostats need an SPDT relay.
Relay coil on contacts 7 and 8; pump on 3 and 5, or 4 and 6. See Pump wiring.
Flue and room
Never smaller than the boiler flue outlet. Minimum bends.
Hold a paper strip at the ash pit — it should deviate towards the ash pit.
Inflow and exhaust openings not restricted or blocked.
24 in back and sides, 36 in front, 28 in overhead, 12 in to combustibles (6 in for double-wall pipe), 6 in to non-combustibles. Document them for insurance.
And dry — aim for 20 % moisture or below.
Controller
The factory defaults are generic. Load the UNI 60 values from Recommended settings before the first burn.
Selecting the wrong fan type leaves a dead band where speed changes do nothing.
Required for Brager Expert exhaust gases mode. The PT1000 is not in the standard kit.
Summer, Winter or Off — see Hot water.
Recorded from the controller menu, for future support calls.
Documentation
Warranty is only valid with a properly filled warranty card showing the date of commissioning by the qualified installer. Demand that your distributor and commissioning professional fill it in correctly.
Keep the documentation for insurance and reference purposes.
Loading, ash removal, the weekly clean, the alarm list and the emergency procedure.
Do not walk away from the first fires
Do not leave the boiler in operation without supervision during the first firings after installation.
Commissioning support
MBtek technical support can help with sizing, commissioning and controller settings.
Now set up the controller before you light it.
Mounting the controller
Fit the TIS Tronic 260U to the UNI boiler lid, including the five-step adapter plate procedure for replacing an older TIS Tronic 83 regulator.
